Il souhaiterait passer la fin de sa vie aupr\u00e8s d\u2019elle mais les&nbsp;besoins de l\u2019\u00c9tat et les attaques de son rival \u00e0 Rome, Octave, l\u2019obligent \u00e0 retourner dans cette ville&nbsp;pour une conf\u00e9rence au sommet. Il finit par accepter le mariage avec la s\u0153ur d\u2019Octave&nbsp;apr\u00e8s de longues n\u00e9gociations. Exc\u00e9d\u00e9, Octave d\u00e9clare la guerre \u00e0 Antoine. Pendant la bataille&nbsp;navale d&rsquo;Actium,&nbsp; la flotte de Cl\u00e9op\u00e2tre prend la fuite et provoque la d\u00e9faite de l&rsquo;arm\u00e9e d&rsquo;Antoine. Abandonn\u00e9 de tous, pensant Cl\u00e9op\u00e2tre morte, Antoine se suicide. Cl\u00e9op\u00e2tre, plut\u00f4t que de souffrir la honte d\u2019un d\u00e9fil\u00e9 par les rues&nbsp;de Rome, se suicide \u00e0 son tour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mise en sc\u00e8ne<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em>(commentaires de Keith Bradford)<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En mati\u00e8re de mise en sc\u00e8ne, tout nous est permis. Selon les quelques dessins qui subsistent des spectacles de son \u00e9poque, nous pouvons supposer que la troupe de Shakespeare jouait&nbsp;en costume de 1600, avec l\u2019adjonction d\u2019un casque antique ou d\u2019une cape en guise de toge. Fallait-il pour cela copier ce choix&nbsp;? Ou jouer en costume de 2013&nbsp;? J\u2019ai conclu qu\u2019il s\u2019agit d\u2019un couple qui, \u00e9voluant sous les feux de la rampe, se d\u00e9m\u00e8ne pour vivre un bonheur personnel. J\u2019ai pens\u00e9 tout de suite aux vedettes de Hollywood, \u00e0 Humphrey Bogart et Lauren Bacall, \u00e0 Richard Burton et Liz Taylor, mais aussi \u00e0 Edouard&nbsp;VIII, roi d\u2019Angleterre qui, en&nbsp;1937, \u00e0 la veille de la 2e Guerre mondiale, abdiqua plut\u00f4t que de renoncer \u00e0 la femme qu\u2019il aimait et que son peuple aurait refus\u00e9 d\u2019accepter. Grand et noble sacrifice pour l\u2019amour? Ou l\u00e2che abandon de son devoir royal? On peut le consid\u00e9rer comme un Antoine de notre \u00e9poque.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>Peu de surprise donc si j\u2019ai choisi la d\u00e9cennie 1930-1939 comme fond de sc\u00e8ne, p\u00e9riode o\u00f9 plane la menace de la guerre, p\u00e9riode pendant laquelle la mode des femmes se calque sur le style grec, p\u00e9riode o\u00f9 sont tourn\u00e9s de nombreux films situ\u00e9s en Afrique du nord. Le premier \u00e9tat est masculin, rigide, vou\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019honneur et \u00e0 l\u2019ordre. En Egypte, par contre, tout est fluide \u00e0 l\u2019instar du Nil; les \u00e9l\u00e9ments et m\u00eame les sexes se confondent. J\u2019avais demand\u00e9 \u00e0 Petra Salvi de traduire ce contraste par le biais des couleurs et des tissus.
